History of Lakes Area Cruisers

A car club named the Lakes Area Cruisers was formed in 1993. The lakes area connotation was chosen because the original members lived in and around Jasper, Texas which is located near Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend reservoirs. Unfortunately the original club was short lived. When it disbanded in 1994 all monies in the treasury were donated to the Boy's and Girl's Club of Jasper.

The current Lakes Area Cruisers club was reconstituted in 1998 by several members of the original club. Alvin Prewitt was elected President in 1998 and reelect every year since until deciding to stepping down in 2011. Alvin is currently serving as Vice-President.

The club operates under a constitution and bylaws that may be amended at a regular meeting by two-thirds vote of members present and voting, providing that notice of the proposed amendment was given at the previous meeting. The club is open to any person of good character interested in special interest car activities.

In 2001, the club held its first “Rod Run”. The event has been held every year since normally in the month of November. The event has grown to be one of the best in the region. Proceeds from the “Rod Run” are donated to the Lakes Area Hospice, the club’s chosen charity. To date, club donations to Lakes Area Hospice are in excess of $53,000.

Currently, active membership stands at 30 families. The term family is used because membership entitles immediate family members residing at the same residences as the applicant / member all benefits of the club.
